Previously Published Data

1.) Students listen to the story Today is Monday, by Eric Carl. Students then look at the calendar, say what day of the week it is, and answer the question, "What food was eaten on that day?"

2.) Students make a version of Today is Monday. In a book of blank pages they write each day of the week at the top of separate pages. Each morning they record what they had for dinner the night before and draw a picture of it under the correct day. At the end of the week they will have a complete book. Students may dictate the name of the food to a teacher/ helper.

3.) Students play calendar with a partner. They ask each other what day of the week it is, what the next day will be, what was yesterday or three days ago, how many days there are in a week, which days are the weekends, and which are school days. If it is their birthday, they talk about what they will do that day.

Previously Published Data

1.) Students are called up individually to the calendar to answer questions by the teacher/ helper.

  • Students point to the current day and say its name. Students answer the following questions: "What day will tomorrow be? What is the name of a weekend day? How many days are in one week?"
  • Using Today is Monday, students will find the page about Thursday and describe what food is mentioned and what animal eats that food.

  •

2.) Given a variety of objects, students will compare any 2, 3, or 4 by length, weight, and capacity. First, they will estimate, then they will use measuring devices to verify their estimates.
