Previously Published Data 1.) Students will use a variety of strategies
to solve the following: Bob receives 1 cent allowance the first week. The
second week he receives 2 cents. The third week he receives 4 cents. The
fourth week he receives 8 cents, and each week after the amount of money
doubles. How much will receive on the 20th week, and how much will he have
received all together?
To solve this problem, students will need to make a list, make a drawing or chart, look for a pattern, and solve a simpler problem. The problem appears difficult, but if is approached systematically, it can be done. This problem could be done together with the class, in groups or individually, depending on student's experience. |
Previously Published Data 1.) Students are given a series of short problem solving tasks. For each problem, they will discuss what problem solving strategy to use and why that strategy would be appropriate.
