Previously Published Data

1.) Students use a numbered die 1-5 and an operations die with various manipulatives. Students partner up. They start with 10 of their chosen objects and then one student rolls the operation die and the other rolls the numbered die. They add or subtract the number of objects as indicated by the dice. Students record their actions on paper with equations and pictures.

2.) Students play 'Number Tile Line Up' in partners. Each student takes 10 tiles from a faced down set of tiles 1-20. Student who draws 10 tile puts it down to start the line-up. In turn, each student tries to add a tile to the line-up. Only number tiles that come directly before or after those already played can be added. A student with no tile to add must pass. The game is over when all number tiles are lined up in order.

Previously Published Data

1.) Teacher may informally assess as each child has the opportunity to add or pop balloons. 2.) The following activities are assessed on an individual basis by the teacher/ helper:

  • Student pick a number tile (1-20) and answer the following questions: "What is one more than your number? One less? Ten more? Ten less?"
  • Teacher presents students with 8 bear counters lined up on the floor. A numbered die 1-5 and an operations die are rolled. Students must perform the appropriate task of adding or subtracting bear counters, as indicated by the dice. Students explain their actions.
