   Explain genres of text material: stories, songs, poems.

1.) Ask students to respond to the author individually by retelling the story, telling their favorite part, giving an opinion, or drawing a picture. Include their individual responses with the class letter to the authors. Provide students with many opportunities to practice skills taught during Shared Writing. Students can demonstrate their writing skills by writing in a journal on a regular basis.

1.) Individual responses are shared and assessed. Because students are at different levels of ability, final products range from illustrations to one or more sentences.

  • Accuracy, details 
  • Vocabulary 
  • Use of resources in room

    Structure

  • Name is on paper 
  • Sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a period.

  •
