1.2 Have students work in groups to complete the Vocabulary Study Log using selected high utility vocabulary from the reading selection. Students should write their own sentence, create a picture, and demonstrate its use in order to ensure retention of the meaning. 1.2 One assessment involves checking the students' retention of the vocabulary meaning and the students' ability to explain how the word origin contributes to the meaning of the vocabulary word as used in the text.
