Have students write out the parts of speech of the sentence, word by word. Students should confirm that they have the sentence mapped out correctly. Next, have students choose their own topic and write a sentence that follows the model exactly. Students will check each other's sentences to make sure that they make sense and follow the model precisely. They should then write and submit a final draft of their sentence on a half sheet of binder paper. 2.) Sentence Searching: Have students search any print looking for similar sentences that contain a telling sentence and at least two phrasal modifiers. Students must find at least three examples, copy the sentences exactly, and provide the source. Have students choose one sentence to share with the whole class. |
