1.) After completing a unit of study on animals, students research an animal, completing the worksheet of information. Have students use simple reference materials to find facts about their chosen animal. Provide non-fiction animal books, encyclopedias, magazines, etc. This information gathering may happen daily as part of the regular classroom routine for a period of several days. The reference materials may be grouped in an area of the classroom and used as a "center" activity for a small group of children at a time. After completing each item of information requested, the students are asked to rewrite the information in complete sentences on another piece of paper. They will also be expected to include a detailed, labeled illustration of the animal. Have students share these reports with partners, a small group, and/ or the whole class. |
