1.) Have students read a literary selection and analyze the use of imagery, language, universal themes and/ or unique aspects of the text. They can then write a reflective essay that explores the significance of personal experiences, either their own, the author's, or a combination of both. For the poem in the example, it is preferable that a Spanish speaking person read it aloud. After reading the poem and participating in group work and class discussion, have students write: |

1.) Determine how many stages of the writing process this paper should follow. If there is a final draft, then the "published" paper is the assessment and may be posted on the bulletin board, read aloud in class, placed in the student's portfolio, or included in a class anthology. If it is determined that the paper will not go through all the stages of the writing process, then students can be evaluated on whether they satisfactorily completed each required stage. Early drafts may be treated as journal entries or less formal writings. Criteria for evaluation of the paper should include: |
