After reading Chapters 8 through 13, students will break into pairs and divide up the following problems that emerge as the state continues to grow.  Some of these problems should include:

1. changes brought about by the Civil War

2. the importance of the railroad industry

3. early Civil Rights actions

4. the boom of the 1920ís

5. the impact of the Great Depression upon the state

6. the importance of the our contributions to W.W.II

Once the students have chosen their topic, they will go online and find
information relevant to that topic and develop a topic sentence.  Examples can be found at the end of each section of each chapter if the students have difficulty thinking up their own.  After developing this sentence, students will pull information from the chapter and the online sources and write a 2 to 3 page paper using the computer. Papers will be
shared with the class and turned in to the teacher.

Use the general scoring rubric offered, or use your own.  Insist that all encyclopedic and online information used is printed out and attached to the back of the paper to discourage
plagiarism.  Insist that a bibliography is used.
