Clark, Walter Van Tilburg. The Ox-Bow Incident Freedman, Russell. Cowboys of the Wild West. Clarion Books The Sierran:
Video 88-0171 California State Railroad Museum |
After reading Chapter 7, students will tour Downieville noting the site of Juanitaís hanging, visiting the Downieville Museum, and taking a walk through the town cemetery. Taking notes of what they see and jotting down information from the gravestones, they will return to the classroom and share their findings. If time permits, we will also visit the Sierra City cemetery, go through the Kentucky Mine Museum, and walk through town. Again we will share information, note similarities and differences between the two towns and speculate as to why the differences exist. |
After doing all of the above, students will each ìtake onî a character from either the museum walks or the cemetery visits and tell the class something about the person. This can be in the form of a poem, a paragraph or an epitaph. Grading will be based on the general rubric outlined previously.
