Previously Published Data

1.) Students will choose an ancient Islam civilization from the Middle Ages to research in order to create a mural. The research will cover the geographic, political, economic and social structures of the civilizations. The information gathered is to be recorded in a graphic organizer.

2.) In teacher assigned groups the students will create a mural to demonstrate the information and key learning gained from the research.

3.) Students will discuss the rubric and have students self assess themselves using the rubric.

4.) After students have self assessed, have them present their mural to the class. The class is to do a peer assessment using the rubric.

5.) Students will need to illustrate the trade routes and the inventions of this period. The information gathered will be put on a class map. 

6.) Working in the small groups, students will create a timeline which traces the spread of Islam and the Arabic language.

7.) As a final project, students will individually write a paper on the origins of Islam, contributions of Muslim scholars or the role of the merchants in Arab Society.

Each achievement is presented as a picture or drawing with a description, and the mural is presented with some forms of decoration or creative ideas. The text is generally written with correct use of conventions.

2 Points:

Mural presents three achievements from the chosen civilization and includes one achievement from each group member's list. Each achievement is presented as a picture or drawing with a description, although some pictures do not reflect achievements of the chosen civilization, and the text may include some errors in the use of conventions. Pictures may be unrelated.

1 Point:

Mural has only one or two achievements, although it may have more than one or two pictures. Information is inaccurate.
