How Would You Survive? GrolierEducational,
1995 (CD-ROM, Mac, Win).
This program allows students to explore three
ancient civilizations: Egyptian, Viking, and Aztec. A character in each
civilization acts as a guide to give excellent program instructions and
is accessed easily during the program to
clarify program features. There is a game
format component that reviews facts at three different levels.
Imagination Express. Destination Pyramids.
Edmark Corporation, 1996 (CD-ROM, Mac, MS-DOS). This program allows students
to create stories of exploration, adventure, and daily life in Ancient
Egypt. Using picture stamps and animations, students create an electronic
book to explore a language written with
pictures instead of letters. Sounds can be
imported or pasted in. Depending on the grade level of the user,
additional features are
available such as writing, editing, recording
music and sound, and interactive sessions.

Published Data
1.) Students will research an ancient civilization
using modern resources, then select an area on which to focus. Each student
will prepare a travel brochure for this area, including a map, a drawing
or two of important places or monuments, a paragraph about the importance
of this area in ancient times, and a description of the climate of the
area. To sell this tour, students should employ modern advertising techniques
to "sell" this tour to potential clients.
2.) Students make a map showing both ancient
and modern boundaries and trade routes. Students demonstrate how trade
routes played a role in the development of the eastern Mediterranean through
a written report.
3.) In cooperative groups, students research,
write, and produce a book on an assigned culture. The book will contain
chapters on geography, politics, economics, religion, and social structure.
Students present a group report on their culture outlining significant
findings and influences on today's society. The report should include visual
aids and is to be a cooperative effort.
