Simulation Situation:

1.) The year is 1875. A man fishing in the Trout River of California has just discovered several large gold nuggets. He has reported his finding and the officials are worried about another Gold Rush like the one in 1849, which was uncontrolled and led to many problems.

2.) Officials offer a generous amount of money to the town that comes up with the best plan for managing the crowds. This town will become the Boom Town of 1875. Each town is to consider housing, transportation, food, keeping law and order and preservation of environment. Make your decision and present your findings to a panel that will decide where the Boom Town will be located.

3.) Questions:

How did miners get to the fields?
What kinds of equipment did they need?
What other goods did the need?
How did they get supplies they needed?
Did the mining cause damage?
What were the problems before laws?
What laws were needed? What were the housing problems?
