Previously Published Data

1.) Students will write a point of view paper explaining the views of a chosen character from the Mission Era or the Mexican Rancho Period. The paper should be in proper essay format and contain the following: Background on the historical character, reason for involvement in California, daily life, feelings about their surroundings and the laws that encompass their life.

2.) Students will keep a journal of notes that will be checked weekly to evaluate individual's ongoing comprehension.

3.) In groups of two or three, students will research, develop, and present an oral report on one of the following:

  • Captain cook 
  • Valdez 
  • Vitus Bering 
  • Juan Cabrillo 
  • Juan Crespi Junipero Serra Gaspar de Portola
  • Early land and sea routes of European explorers with focus on North Pacific 
  • Spanish exploration and colonization
  • Role of Fransicans in change in California
  • Effects of Mexican War for Independence on Alta California 
  • Mexican Rule and its attributes
