Music descriptor: 
Students apply what they learn in music to learning in
other subject areas. They develop competencies in problem solving, communication skills, working with others, and management of time and
resources, all of which contribute to lifelong learning and career skills.

 
1. Students explore how musicians work alone, together, and with other people in the community.

2. Students learn how practice improves musical skills.

3. Students identify ways in which the subject matter of other disciplines taught in the school are interrelated with those of music.
4. Students explore the relationship of music to the other arts.

Artistic Perception:

Processing, analyzing, and responding to sensory information through the language and skills unique to the arts.

 
1. The student identifies artistic qualities in the environment and in works of art and is able to make distinctions in the qualities.

2. The student identifies art elements as he or she explores, analyzes, and talks about what he or she sees and creates (line, color, shape/form,
texture, space).

3. The student identifies design principles as he or she explores, analyzes, and talks about what he or she sees and creates (balance, contrast,
emphasis, movement, rhythm, unity).

4. The student understands and uses basic art vocabulary.

 
Standard 2.
Creative Expression:
Creating, performing, and participating in the arts.

Visual Arts Descriptor: 
Students develop vocal and instrumental music skills in
order to perform a varied repertoire of music. They compose and arrange music and improvise melodies, variations, and accompaniments.

2. The student explores a variety of visual arts media, techniques, and processes.

Understanding historical contributions and cultural dimensions of the arts.

Visual Arts Descriptor:

1. The student examines artworks from a variety of cultures.

2. The student describes major themes and styles in visual art from the past and present.

Responding to, analyzing, and making judgments about works in the arts

Visual Arts descriptor: 
Students describe, analyze, interpret, and derive
meaning from musical works. They develop criteria, then make critical judgments about and determine the quality of musical experiences and performances based on elements and principles of music.

 
1. The student talks about his or her artwork and the works of others.

2. The student talks about the reasons that people make art.

3. The student uses art vocabulary to express his or her ideas and to give reasons for his or her preferences in works of art.

2. The student observes objects, animals, and people and re-creates their characteristics using movement and voice.

3. The student demonstrates understanding of works in theatre by explor-ing, analyzing, making choices, and talking about what is presented
through voice, movement, and visual effects.

4. The student uses basic theatre vocabulary to talk about his or her response to a play or other theatrical experience.

 
Standard 2.

theatre.
