About This School

Downieville School is located near the communities of Sierra City, Goodyears Bar and Camptonville. It draws its students from a very large area. Therefore, many of our students ride the bus daily. This school is one of five in the Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District.

Special programs include our Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) class, which supports our kids in academic success as well as entering and finding financial support at the college and university level.  We also have a beginning Independent Study Program and college courses offered online through the University of California College Preparatory (UCCP).  Tutoring is also provided with assistance from several community members on Thursday after school.

School Description and Mission Statement

This section provides information about the school's goals and programs.

The vision of Downieville Schools is to provide all students with the opportunities, encouragement, and support needed for success in the 21st century.  This will be achieved through the collaboration of all stakeholders – staff, students, parents and community members.  The mission of Downieville Schools is to provide a standards-based core curriculum and extra curricular activities within a safe learning environment.  We are preparing our students to become productive and responsible citizens of the global community.

Opportunities for Parental Involvement

This section provides information about opportunities for parents to become involved with school activities.

Parents, guardians and members of the educational community are always welcome at Downieville Elementary School. Though a small core of parents continue to be involved at DES, more parents and community members are needed to support the wide-variety of curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities at Downieville Elementary School. Parents and community members can be involved in: Site Council, Parent Teacher Organization, Field Trips, Classroom aides, and volunteering in individual classrooms. We ask that parents that wish to volunteer on a regular basis have their fingerprints cleared through the district office (at no cost to them).
